Better posture for the office

Posture and the Office Workspace

Wouldn't it be cool if we all had loungers with great perfect monitors, custom built to our bodies? Wouldn't work be so much more productive and then you wouldn't need to take any over the counter medicine for those little aches and pains? Sounds like a great dream, but unfortunately, work-spaces are cookie cutter spaces designed by the employer without the specific employee's body in mind.

Posture is one of the biggest battles in the musculoskeletal world. While I couldn't possibly custom plan a perfect work-space for each individual, let's hit some key points you should aim for:

  • If you're lucky enough, ask your HR department for a vari-desk aka a sitting/standing desk.

  • Drop your chair, raise your monitor

  • The eyes should be level with the bottom half of the monitor.

  • Position your mouse and keyboard near chest level.
